UYL-NA's MISS UKRAINE FOR 1961

WAS CROWNED LILAC QUEEN LAST MAY

Chosen over three other contestants at the Ukrainian Youth League of North America Convention Ball, Ann Sypian of Rochester, N.Y. became MISS UKRAINE shortly after midnight September 5, 1960. Grade 12 student at Rochester's Benjamin Franklin high school, Ann is not a novice in winning of popularity contests. Last May she was crowned Miss Ukraine Lilac Queen in Rochester, and it was as the holder of that title that the Ukrainian Youth Club of Rochester sent Miss Sypian to the 23rd UYL-NA Convention held in New York's Hotel Park Sheraton over the Labor Day weekend.

The 25-man strong delegation from the upstate New York center which accompanied Ann to the Convention came well prepared and was no doubt instrumental in seeing to it that its contestant gained the highest honors. In this the Rochester delegation had the services of William B. Hussar, UNA Supreme Advisor and last year's UYL-NA Convention chairman.

Miss Ann Sypian is a member of St. Ann's Society, Branch 343 of the Ukrainian National Association in Rochester.
