By Roman Lysniak

On Sunday, September 18, 1960, the first soccer team of the Ukrainian American Sports Club of New York opened new soccer season 1960-61 engaging the strong eleven of DSC Brooklyn at the Ukrainian American Athletic Field in College Point. The game was played in threatening weather before some 450 spectators and justly ended in a 1:1 tie. The goal for USC was scored by 21-year-old Rudy Stockhammer at the 84 minutes mark. The Brooklyn team was able to score their equalizer two minutes before the end of the game.

The caliber of play distinctly showed that both team aren't completely ready for the new season. This is especially true of the USC team. The New York Ukes are still in the process of building up their team. They expect shortly, arrival of two Ukrainian players from Argentina. The third one - Peter Cheremcha - has already arrived but because of formalities could not play against DSC Brooklyn. He will be seen, though, in the USC line-up in next meeting of USC against Champions of German American Football Association's "Big Ten" Division, where USC is presently playing after winning the Championship of Premier Division - last year.

The line-up of USC New York is as follows: A. Holub - A. Olynec, R. Pidhorecky - E. Czysowych, G. Guillermo, O. Nalywajko - W. Schmotolocha, M. Vitiuk, S. Schmotolocha, R. Stockhammer, J. Wasylkewycz. Substitutes: W. Gnoj, W. Parker. Manager of the Team is W. Sierant.
