Law and Order Committee execs meet

NEW YORK - The executive committee of the Committee for Law and Order in the UCCA met here on Monday, November 29, to discuss the most recent developments within the Ukrainian community in connection with appeal of the U.S. Ukrainian Catholic hierarchy to the faithful and the leaders of community organizations.

In his report to the meeting participants, the committee's president, Dr. Bohdan Shebunchak, said that there had been response to the appeal on the part of the Committee for Law and Order in the UCCA, the fraternal organizations and Patriarch Josyf Slipyj. The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America and the Organizations of the Ukrainian Liberation Front, however, have not reacted in the two months since the appeal's issuance, he said.

Dr. Roman Baranowsky reported on his visit to Cleveland, where he spoke at an evening of discussion organized by the Organization for the Rebirth of Ukraine. The topic of the November 6 event was the state of the Ukrainian community in the United States in the aftermath of the 13th UCCA Congress.

Also at the meeting, the Committee for Law and Order reiterated its position that if the hierarchs' appeal yields no positive results in restoring unity within the Ukrainian community, it will proceed with plans to convene, in the spring of 1983, a national convention for the purpose of establishing a new central organization of Ukrainian organizations in the United States.

The next meeting of the executive committee of the Committee for Law and Order in the UCCA is scheduled for January 10.
