Famine memorial conferences slated


CLEVELAND - The Cleveland and Youngstown communities and their memorial committees have prepared two scholarly conferences to be held at Cleveland State University on October 29 and Youngstown State University on October 30.

The Cleveland State conference will be held at 10 a.m. in the International Theater, Room 1, on East 22nd and Euclid Avenue. Participating in the program will be Dr. M. Ciskewycz of Ohio State University, who will speak on "Art and Actuality: The Harvest Theme in Soviet Social Realism"; Dr. B. Czepak, "Famine: Individual and Society from the Medical Perspective"; Dr. James Mace of Harvard University, "Famine in Ukraine 1932-33"; and Dr. George Kulchycky of Youngstown State University, "Precedents and Cover-Up of the Ukrainian Famine of 1932-33."

On the next day the same speakers will read their papers at Youngstown State University at 10 a.m. in the Arts and Sciences Building, Room 132. Shown at the conference will be slides and films about the Ukrainian holocaust. A proclamation from Gov. Richard Celeste declaring the week of October 22 to 29 as "Ukrainian Famine Week" will be read.
