Sunday, October 23
- EAST HANOVER, N.J.: Branch 86 of the Ukrainian National Women's League
of America will present a fashion show by a la Carte Boutique at 4 p.m.
at the Ramada Inn on Route 10. The afternoon will also feature door prizes,
canapes, cakes and coffee. Admission is $10; $5 for seniors and students.
Weekend of October 28-30
- CHICAGO: Branch 6 of the Ukrainian National Women's League will host
an exhibit of paintings by the Rev. Archpriest Serhij Pastuchiv in the
Plast Building, 2124 W. Chicago Ave. The opening reception will take place
on Friday, October 28 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, October 29
- YONKERS, N.Y.: The second annual Halloween bash sponsored by the SUM-A
Yonkers branch will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at the Ukrainian Youth Center,
301 Palisades Ave., in Yonkers. There promises to be plenty of food, drinks
and surprises in store. The Iskra Band will perform. Tickets are $5 with
costume and $7 without. Prizes will be awarded for best costume. No one
is too old to attend.
- NEW YORK: The Pvt. Nicholas Minue Post No. 7 of the Ukrainian American
Veterans will host the UAV national executive board meeting scheduled for
3 p.m. at the Ukrainian Institute of America, 2 E. 79th St.
At 6 p.m., the Pvt. Nicholas Minue Post No. 7, together
with the Pvt. Nicholas Minue Post No. 1260 of the American Legion, will
hold a memorial service in honor of the deceased member of both posts,
Lt. Col. Walter Steck. Representatives of American and American Ukrainian
veterans, fraternal and civic organizations are invited to participate.
Ulana Steck will be the guest of honor. A buffet dinner will be served
following the ceremony. Suggested donations are $15 per person, $25 per
couple.
- PERTH AMBOY, N.J.: A jubilee concert in observance of the 75th anniversary
of the founding of Assumption Ukrainian Catholic Church will be held tonight
at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. The Boyan Parish choir will sponsor
the program as well as perform. The Homin Stepiv Bandura Ensemble and St.
John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church Choir will also perform. Admission
will be by voluntary contribution.
- EAST HANOVER, N.J.: Branch 75 of the Ukrainian National Women's League,
in Maplewood, will hold a 10th anniversary dinner-dance at the Ramada Inn
on Route 10. The dinner will begin at 7 p.m., followed by dancing to music
provided by the Tempo Orchestra. Tickets are $25 per person. For reservations,

- BAYONNE, N.J.: The annual Chinese Auction sponsored by Ss. Peter and
Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church of Jersey City will be held at the Hi-Hat
Club, 180 W. 54th St., beginning at noon.
Tickets are available for $10 a person, which includes
admission, 10 free ticket stubs and a roast beef dinner. They may be purchased
at the church rectory, 30 Bentley Ave. (432-3122), and from committee members
Olga Balutanski, Olga Fitzgerald, Helen Masakowska, Barbara Conyack, Nancy
Steblecki and Maria Shevchuk. Proceeds from this event will go toward the
church building fund.
- NEW YORK: The United Ukrainian American Organizations of Metropolitan
New York will sponsor a November 1 program at 2 p.m. at Washington Irving
High School on 17th Street.
Monday, October 31
- EDMONTON: The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University
of Alberta will present a lecture by Marco Carynnyk, titled "The Years
of the Hungry Horse: The Ukrainian Famine of 1932-33." Mr. Carynnyk,
a visiting fellow at the Kennan Institute in Washington, will present his
talk at 7:30 p.m. at St. Vladimir's College. For more information, please

ONGOING
- PHILADELPHIA: The Northeast Regional Library is hosting a month-long
exhibit of Ukrainian folk art, during October. On display at the library's
humanities department are many forms of art, including pysanky (Ukrainian
Easter eggs), dolls in colorful costumes, embroidered pillows, Hutsul ceramics,
Trypillian ceramics with designs from 2,500 B.C., woodcarvings and leather
craft. Also on display is a collection of kylyms, woven rugs.
This exhibit was provided by the Community Outreach Department
of the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center which is located at 700
Cedar Road in Abington Township. This department of the center offers exhibits
of Ukrainian art to libraries, banks, museums or other community institutions.
This department also has compiled a list of available speakers for schools,
and community groups on various Ukrainian area related topics, history,
religion, art, human rights, etc.
The exhibit is meant to acquaint the public with the many
programs of the Ukrainian center. Courses of Ukrainian folk dance, workshops
in pysanky and other crafts are offered, as also are classes in English
and Ukrainian. The Northeast Regional Library is located on Cottman Avenue
and Oakland.
- WINNIPEG: The Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre is sponsoring
an exhibition titled "Mama, Bread!" commemorating the 50th anniversary
of the famine in Ukraine, 1932-33.
It is held in the Pool of the Black Star in the Manitoba
Legislative Building from Wednesday, October 5, to Monday, October 31.
The exhibition consists of nine panels of photographs, newspaper clippings
and documents pertaining to the famine.
The Manitoba Legislative Building is open every day from
8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The exhibit will be available for booking after November
