AHRU recognizes The Weekly


JERSEY CITY, N.J. - A plaque was presented by Bozhena Olshaniwsky, president of Americans for Human Rights in Ukraine, to Roma Hadzewycz, editor-in-chief of The Ukrainian Weekly, on the occasion of the Weekly's 60th anniversary year.

The citation read: "Americans for Human Rights in Ukraine - AHRU proudly bestows this award on Roma Hadzewycz, editor-in-chief of The Ukrainian Weekly, on the occasion of its 60th anniversary and for her outstanding editorship, journalism and reporting on issues of human rights and Ukraine."

The editor and The Weekly staff were cited for their outstanding reporting and editorials, which were used extensively in AHRU's lobbying efforts in the halls of Congress and with the executive branch of government in the areas of defense of human rights; passage of the Famine bill and establishment of the U.S. Commission on the Ukraine Famine; defense of civil rights and reporting on the case of John Demjanjuk; and striving for recognition and the attainment of Ukraine's independence.

Mrs. Olshaniwsky made the following statement "We, the members of AHRU, reiterate our admiration and gratitude to Roma Hadzewycz and the staff of The Weekly for their excellent work and wish them many more years of productive and creative work."
