- NEW YORK: The Art and Literary Club of the Organization for the Defense
of Four Freedoms for Ukraine (ODFFU) invites the community to an evening
of poetry with Kyiv School poet Mykola Vorobyov, beginning at 7 p.m. at

- PHILADELPHIA, Pa.: The Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center will
hold its 18th annual gala banquet, starting at 7 p.m. This year's highlight
will be the burning of the center's mortgage. Dr. Julian E. Kulas of Chicago
will receive the 1996 Recognition Award. A special exhibit of the private
collection of the late Zenon Fesczak, curated by his son, Zenon, will be
previewed in the gallery at 6 p.m. As part of the festivities, over 100
former members of the board of directors will be honored. The program will
feature the Les Kurbas Theater from Lviv and young award-winning musicians
from Ukraine, Khrystyna Dorkhuso and Solomiya Ivakhiv. Banquet donation:

- VENICE, Fla.: Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Dr. Yuri Shcherbak
will speak at a breakfast at the Englewood Country Club, to begin at 9
a.m. Fee: $25. At 7 p.m., the ambassador will speak at the St. Andrew Cultural
Center here. The following day, Dr. Shcherbak will be in St. Petersburg,
Fla., where he will be welcomed by the local Ukrainian community at Epiphany

- SILVER SPRING, Md.: A concert honoring Taras Shevchenko will be held
at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 15100 New Hampshire Ave.,
at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the local Ukrainian

- NEW YORK: The ODFFU Art and Literary Club invites all to visit the
Mayana Gallery for "Poems of Taras Shevchenko," an exhibit of
linotypes and gravures by Vitaliy Lytvyn and other Kyiv artists. The exhibit
opens at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. The gallery is open Thursday-Friday
from 6-8 p.m.; and Saturday-Sunday,1-5 p.m. The gallery is located at 136

students, scholars and the community at large to "The Tamma of Kyiv
and the Mongol Conquests," a lecture by Prof. Donald Ostrowski of

in the 21st International Folk Fair to be held at the Thunder Dome in the
downtown area, invites all to participate in this entertaining event. Fair
is open on Friday, 2-9 p.m.; Saturday,10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday,10 a.m.-7

- WINDHAM, N.Y.: The KLK Ukrainian Ski Club's annual ski weekend and
races will be held at Ski Windham. Race registration and bib assignments
will be held at the KLK table on the third of floor of the Ski Windham
lodge at 8:30-9:30 a.m. Race registration and lift ticket: adults, $40;
juniors, $30; discounted lift tickets will be available for non-racers.
Time of racing will be announced at registration. There will be a dinner
buffet, awards presentation, socializing and surprises at the Windham Arms

artists will be demonstrating their artwork. Pysanky, ceramics, watercolors,
oil paintings and jewelry are among the items that will be available for

- PASSAIC, N.J.: The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Passaic-Bergen
Branch, presents a commemorative concert in honor of the great Ukrainian
poet Taras Shevchenko at the Ukrainian Center, 240 Hope Ave., beginning
at 12:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Roksolana Lozynsky, member of
the UCCA Executive Board. Featured in the program will be students of the
School of Ukrainian Studies "Ridna Shkola," St. Nicholas Ukrainian
Catholic School, members of the SUM-A and Plast youth organizations, the

- NEW YORK: The Ukrainian Institute of America's Music at the Institute
series presents "Dream Time" (1993-1995), by Virko Baley. This
world premier performance will be performed by the California E.A.R. Unit:
Rand Steiger, conductor; Dorothy Stone, flutes; James Rohrig, clarinets;
Amy Knoles and Arthur Jarvinen, percussion; Lorna Eder, piano; Robin Lorentz,
violin; Erika Duke-Kirkpatrick, cello. The concert starts at 8 p.m. at

- CARNEGIE, Pa.: The Office of Religious Education of the Ukrainian Catholic
Diocese of Parma is sponsoring a workshop on "Preserving the Gift:
The Mystery (Sacrament) of Repentance." The workshop will be held
at Holy Trinity Church at 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The new Penance ritual will
be presented and discussed. Renowned Eastern Catholic retreat director
Msgr. Theodore Humanitski will be the keynote speaker. He is to discuss
"Penance from an Eastern Perspective." Everyone is welcome to
attend the workshop. Registration fees, received before March 15, are $15.
