- CAMBRIDGE, Mass.: The Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute is holding
a lecture by Oksana Zabuzhko, author and senior research scholar at the
National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, who will speak on "Being
a Woman Writer in a Post-Colonial Culture: The Case of Ukraine." The
talk will be held at the institute, 1583 Massachusetts Ave., at 4-6 p.m.
Wednesday, November 6
- NEWARK, N.J.: The Ukrainian Club of Rutgers University, Newark Campus,
is holding a lecture by Prof. Vitalij Keis, professor of English at Rutgers
University, who will speak on "Ukrainian Education in the Donbas Region,"
to be held at 2:30 p.m. in Conklin Hall, Room 324 (third floor, History
Seminar Room), 175 University Ave. (corner of Bleeker Street).
Saturday, November 9
- PASSAIC, N.J.: The Ukrainian American Youth Association (SUM-A), Passaic
Branch, is holding its annual fall dance-zabava, featuring the dynamic
Burlaky orchestra of Montreal. The dance will be held at the Ukrainian
Center, 240 Hope Ave., starting at 9 p.m. Tickets are $12, in advance,

- COATSVILLE, PA.: Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 399 Charles
St., is holding its annual fall bazaar, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be craft
tables and a variety of Ukrainian food and baked goods. For more information

- NEWARK, N.J.: The Rosary Altar Society of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian
Catholic Church, Sanford Avenue, is holding a Chinese Auction in the school
gymnasium, starting at 1 p.m. There will be door prizes and refreshments
will be served. Donation: $5.
- PARMA, Ohio: St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral will commemorate
the 75th anniversary of the rebirth of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox
Church (1921, Kyiv) with a moleben service for the church in Ukraine, to
be said following the 10:15 a.m. liturgy. Following the service, there
will be a commemorative program in the parish center. Throughout the month
of October and concluding on the day of the program, donations are being
solicited for Ukrainian Orthodox seminaries in Ukraine.
- BLOOMINGDALE, Ill.: Baritone Yaroslav Hnatiuk will appear in concert
in a program of works by Ukrainian composers and opera arias, with piano
accompaniment by Svitlana Hnatiuk, to be held at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox
Church parish center, 300 E. Army Trail Road, at 1 p.m. Admission: $10.
The concert is sponsored by the Ukrainian Melody Hour-TV.
- PERTH AMBOY, N.J.: The Ukrainian Assumption School, Meredith and Jacques
streets, is holding its annual Christmas bazaar, 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. There
will be games, craft items, a Chinese Auction, raffles as well as food.

- SCOTTSDALE, Arizona: Pianist Volodymyr Vynnytsky will appear with the
Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra, Irving Fleming, music director, in the the
first concert of the season. He will be playing Liszt's Piano Concerto
No. 1 in E Flat Major. The concert program includes works by C.P.E. Bach,
Symphony No. 3 in F Major and Symphonia in D Major, and the late Ukrainian
composer Hryhoriy Tsytaliuk, "Songs from My Country" (U.S. premiere),
Mark Pearlman, conductor. The November 11 concert will be held at Desert
Mountain, 12575 E. Via Linda; the concerts on November 12 and 13 will be
held at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts. Performance time: 8 p.m. For

Thursday, November 14
- MORRISTOWN, N.J.: Renowned violist and conductor Yuri Bashmet and the
Moscow Soloists will be joined by acclaimed pianist Alexander Slobodyanik
and trumpet soloist Vladimir Kafelnikov in concert as part of the Third
Morris International Festival of the Arts, saluting Jerusalem 3000, at
the Community Theater. The three featured performers are all originally
from Ukraine. The concert program includes works by Brahms, Schoenberg,
Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. The concert will be hosted by Robert Sherman,
musicologist and well-known radio commentator from New York. The theatre
is located at 100 South St. Performance time: 8 p.m. Tickets may be ordered

and through Ticketmaster. The festival series, founded by Mr. Slobodyanik
in 1993, is presented by Nova Artists Inc., Laryssa Krupa, executive director.

- ST. GEORGE, Utah: The Leontovych String Quartet - Yuri Mazurkevich,
first violin; Yuri Kharenko, second violin; Borys Deviatov, viola; and
Volodymyr Panteleyev, cello - will appear in concert at Dixie Center
Cox Performing Arts, 425 South 700 East, in a program of works by Schubert,
Shostakovich and Dvorak. Performance time: 8 p.m.
Sunday, November 24
- SAN JOSE, Calif.: The Leontovych String Quartet will appear at Le Petit
Trianon, 72 N. Fifth St., in a program of works by Schubert, Shostakovich
and Brahms. Performance time: 7 p.m.

- IRVINE, Cal.: The Leontovych String Quartet will appear in concert
at the Irvine Barclay Theater, 4242 Campus Drive, in a program of works
by Schubert, Shostakovich and Brahms. Performance time: 8 p.m.
