Addenda
- In the August 24 issue of The Weekly, Dr. Roman Solchanyk, speaking
to the topic of Russia's concern about Russians living outside Russia proper
was paraphrased as saying that the Russian Duma has two committees that
concern themselves with Russians living abroad. The author intended to
say that the Russian Duma has two committees that deal with foreign affairs,
a "normal" one that deals with "the real world" and
the Committee on the CIS and Ties with Compatriots Abroad that deals with
Russians who live in the near abroad.
- On August 22 in Kyiv President Leonid Kuchma presented awards to more
than 60 people "who have made weighty contributions to building and
strengthening the Ukrainian state." Among those honored from the United
States was Eugene Stachiw, vice-president of the Ukrainian American Coordinating
Council.
