- NEW YORK: "East Village meets Eastern Europe with a bit of Africa
thrown in for good measure" at the Sidewalk Cafe, Avenue A & Sixth
Street, at 8 p.m. midnight. A medley of traditional folk groups will perform,
including Ukrainian Andriy Milavsky's premier folk accoustic band in the
U.S., Cheres, which will perform at 9:30-10:30 p.m. The band includes strings,
winds, accordion, hammered dulcimer, drums and vocals. For more information

- WHIPPANY, N.J.: The Ukrainian American Youth Association (SUM-A), Whippany
Branch, will hold its annual "Yalynka" in the St. John the Baptist
Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall on North Jefferson Road and Route 10 East.
The "Yalynka" will begin at 3 p.m. Admission: adults, $10; children
under 12 free.
Saturday, January 17
- BALTIMORE: The Ukrainian American Youth Association (SUM-A) will hold
its traditional "Malanka" dance at their headquarters, 2301 Eastern
Ave. The dance will rock to the tunes of the Mandry Orchestra at 9 p.m.
- 1 a.m. There will be a free buffet and soda, as well as a cash bar. Advanced
tickets/donations are $20 per person and $25 at the door. Tickets for couples
are $15 and student tickets are $15.
- WASHINGTON: The Washington Group invites everyone to the annual TWG
Christmas "Malanka" party. The party will begin at 7:30 p.m.
at Gusti's, 1837 M St. NW (corner of 19th and M streets near the Dupont
Circle and Farrugut West metro stops). Admission: $15, includes a buffet

- WHIPPANY, N.J.: The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Morris
County Branch, is sponsoring their annual "Malanka." The dinner
and dance to the music of Michael Koziupa's Unicorn start at 9 p.m. Admission:

- IRVINGTON, N.J.: The Ukrainian American Youth Association (SUM-A),
Irvington Branch, invites the hromada to its traditional "Yalynka"
at 2:30 p.m. at the Ukrainian Community Center, 140 Prospect Ave. The event
will include traditional holiday fare and a performance by the SUM-A youth.
Friday-Saturday, January 23-24
- NEW YORK: The Peter Jacyk Center for Ukrainian Historical Studies,
the Harriman Institute at Columbia University, the Shevchenko Scientific
Society, the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences in the U.S. and the
Ukrainian Institute of America are sponsoring a conference in commemoration
of the 80th anniversary of the Ukrainian National Revolution. The programs
will be held at Columbia University, 420 W.118th St., and at the Ukrainian

- WARREN, Mich.: Ukrainian youth organizations of Southeastern Michigan
- SUM-A, Plast and USC Chernyk - are sponsoring a "Malanka" dinner
and dance at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, 26601 Ryan Road. Cocktails
will be served at 7:30 p.m., dinner will be at 8 p.m. and the dance to
the music of Burlaky of Montreal will begin at 9 p.m. Tickets: $50 for
both the dinner and dance, including champagne and party favors ($45 if
purchased before January 14); dance only: adults, $25; students under age

holding its traditional "Malanka" dance with a sit-down dinner,

- NEW YORK: "Music at the Institute" presents the Chamber Music
Society of the Ukrainian Institute of America, Mykola Suk, artistic director,
in a program titled "Ukrainian Themes in Western Music." The
program of works will include selections from: Leoffler, Liszt, Rachmaninoff,
Hummel, Randf and Beethoven. Featured performers: Oksana Krovytska, soprano;
Mr. Suk, piano; the Leontovych String Quartet; Vyacheslav Bakis, piano
and guest artist; Maria Elena Tobon, flute. The concert is sponsored by

Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m.
and the dance, with music by New York's Harmony, will start at 9 p.m. Admission:

- UTICA, N.Y.: A New Year's "Malanka," sponsored by Saint Volodymyr
the Great Ukrainian Catholic Church, will be held at the church auditorium

dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and the dance will feature music by "Svitanok."
