CLEVELAND, Ohio - Hundreds of faithful of the Ukrainian community of Greater Cleveland solemnly commemorated the 7 million to 10 million victims of the 1932-1933 Great Famine in Ukraine on Sunday, November 28.

The commemoration began at noon with a five-block procession from St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Parma, to St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, where a monument to the victims of the Famine is located. The Rev. John R. Nakonachny, pastor of St. Vladimir's Cathedral, spoke on the meaning of this solemn event, followed by Msgr. Michael Rewtiuk, pastor of St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. A memorial service was served, with the participation of more than a half dozen deacons and members of the clergy from nearby Orthodox and Catholic parishes. Responses to the memorial service were sung by St. Vladimir's Cathedral choir under the direction of Markian Komichak. Ukrainian veterans' organizations and youth groups were represented, displaying their flags and standards.

At the conclusion of the service, Wasyl Liscynesky, president of the United Ukrainian Organizations of Greater Cleveland and coordinator of the commemoration, thanked everyone for their participation.
