Plast and SUM youths participate in Clifton ceremonies

CLIFTON, N.J. - On December 14, 1999, the children of Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization and the Ukrainian American Youth Association (SUM) in Passaic decorated a Ukrainian Christmas tree and hosted a tree-lighting ceremony at Clifton City Hall. In attendance was the mayor of Clifton, James Anzaldi, as well as various other city officials, including Clifton City Councilman Stephan Tatarenko. Myshka's New Year

Well, dear friends, we survived Y2K! I don't know about you, but in Myshkaland I went caroling in accordance with Ukrainian tradition. I even brought wheat to sprinkle to wish everyone all the best in the New Year.

Love,
Mykola

Our readers write: Save my school

Dear People:

Could you help my school? I do not want it to close. I go to St. George School on Sixth Street in New York City. I am in third grade with my friends. I do not want the school to close down because I like my Ukrainian teacher and my English teacher.

At school we learn religion, Ukrainian language and many songs, and we learn [about] the holidays. I also want to learn to play the bandura during recess.

On Saturdays I go to Ukrainian School there. Then I eat at the pyrohy restaurant with my friends, and if the school closes the restaurant will close.

Thank you.
