- NEW YORK: The Ukrainian Institute of America presents the Olenska/Olenska
Petryshyn art exhibit featuring the work of sisters-artists Arcadia Olenska-Petryshyn
(1934-1996) and Chrystya Olenska (1941-1979). Painting in a series of distinct
phases that ranged from abstraction to realism, Ms. Olenska-Petryshyn was
particularly acclaimed for her often monumental canvases of flora, especially
desert blooms. Ms. Olenska was a versatile artist whose work ranges from
expressive and haunting paintings, mostly still lives and landscapes, to
reliefs and papier-mâché sculptures. The exhibits opens at
the institute, 2 E. 79th St., on January 14 and will be on view through
January 30. Works will be available for purchase.

- FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.: A "Malanka 2000" celebration, sponsored
by the Ukrainian Dancers of Miami will be held at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale
Airport Hotel. The three-day event will begin with an informal cocktail
party on Friday, January 14, (tickets: $25, adults; $10, children under
12); followed by a dinner-dance to the music of Burya on Saturday, January
15 (tickets: $70, adults; $20, children under 12); and conclude with a
champagne brunch and a Barabolya-Borsch show on Sunday, January 16, (tickets:

- NORTH PORT, Fla.: Soprano Oksana Krovytska and pianist Volodymyr Vynnytsky
will appear in concert in a program of opera arias and works by Chopin
and Skoryk to be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1078 N.
Biscayne Dr., at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the concert will go towards organizing
a social service program for elderly members of the local Ukrainian community.

- BOSTON: "Malanka 2000," hosted by Boston Ukrainian community
organization, among them SUM-A, Plast, Ukrainian American Coordinating
Council, and Ukrainian American Veterans, will be held at Cedars of Lebanon,
61 Rockwood Road, Jamaica Plain, Mass., starting at 7:30 p.m. Music will
be by Khvylia (The Wave). Advance purchase tickets: adults, $25; teenagers,
$15; under 12, free. Tickets at the door: adults, $30; teenagers, $18.

- NEW YORK: "Bread with Honey: A Performance of Dance and Music"
will be presented at The Bridge for Dance, featuring choreography by Katja
Pylyshenko Kolcio and music by Julian Kytasty and Alex Kytasty. The concert,
with performances on Saturday, January 22; and Friday, January 28, will
take place at 8:30 p.m. at The Bridge for Dance, 2726 Broadway, third floor,
(between 104th and 105th streets); (1, 9 train to 103rd Street or 2, 3
to 96th Street). Tickets: $10. The final performance will be held Friday,

Saturday and Sunday, January 29-30
- NEW YORK: Yara Arts Group will present "Calling Songs" -
workshops in Ukrainian folk singing with Maryana Sadovska. Ms. Sadovska
was born in Lviv, performed Yara's first project in Ukraine, and now works
at the Gardzienice Experimental Theatre in Poland. For the last nine summers
she traveled through Polissia, and the Poltava, Hutsul and Lemko regions
of Ukraine collecting songs, stories and documenting rituals. Discover
the folk voice in you. Enjoy traditional harmony singing. You do not have
to be able to read Ukrainian or music to participate. The workshop will
be held Saturday at noon-4 p.m. and Sunday at 2-6 p.m. at La MaMa Theatre,

is holding a ball to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Newark Plast branch
