Houston's Ukrainian Americans maintain contacts with Ukraine's Embassy in Seoul

HOUSTON - Eugene A. Kuchta of Houston's Ukrainian American community had the honor and privilege of a luncheon meeting with Ukraine's ambassador to South Korea, Mykhailo B. Reznik, during his most recent business trip to Seoul.

During their luncheon on November 18, 1999, Mr. Kuchta presented Ambassador Reznik with two original paintings and a hand-carved wooden box as gifts to the Embassy from members of the Ukrainian American Cultural Club of Houston (UACCH ). These gifts were commissioned by the UACCH from artists and craftsmen who are members of Houston's Ukrainian American community.

The artists are Lydia Ostapiuk Earl, whose "Kobzar" oil painting will grace the Embassy in Seoul, and Natalka Zabolotsky, whose "Pryvit" watercolor will be the first artwork displayed at the newly opened Consulate in Pusan, South Korea. The wood-carved box depicting a Kozak on horseback which was created by Vasyl Goulytch, will be prominently displayed at the Embassy in Seoul.

Ambassador Reznik's friendship with members of the UACCH began during his tenure as chief of Ukraines' Trade and Economic Mission as an adjunct to the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington.

During a previous business trip to Seoul, Mr. Kuchta had an opportunity to visit the newly appointed ambassador and extend the UACCH's best wishes to Ambassador Reznik and the Embassy staff. Upon returning to Houston Mr. Kuchta informed the membership of the UACCH of his visit and it was unanimously agreed that the UACCH would send a gift to the newly opened Embassy.
