- NEW YORK: "Bread with Honey: A Performance of Dance and Music"
will be presented at The Bridge for Dance, featuring choreography by Katja
Pylyshenko Kolcio and music by Julian Kytasty and Alex Kytasty. The concert
will take place at 8:30 p.m. at The Bridge for Dance, 2726 Broadway (between
104th and 105th streets), third floor, (1, 9 train to 103rd Street or 2,

- PITTSBURGH: The Duquesne University Tamburitzans will audition talent
for the 2000-2001 performing season. Graduating high school seniors and
current college undergraduates with dance, vocal or musical talent may
audition for a spot in the ensemble, which presents the music, songs and
dances of Eastern Europe and neighboring cultures. The Tamburitzans perform
from coast to coast, averaging 80 shows per season, which runs from mid-August
through May. Successful auditionees will receive substantial scholarship
aid to study in the field of their choice at Duquesne University. Selections
from Ukraine are featured regularly in the Tamburitzans' production; many
talented dancers, singers, violinists, accordionists, clarinetists and
other folk instrumentalists of Ukrainian heritage have proudly performed
with the ensemble over its 63-year history. For more information, or to

present "Gogol/Hohol: Contemporary Artists, Writers and Performers
React to the Master." Friday, 8 p.m.: opening of art exhibit festival
of films inspired by Gogol, and performance by "Staroviry" ethno-electronic
band; Saturday, 8 p.m.: folk songs that inspired Gogo performed by Maryanna
Sadovska and Julian Kytasty with performances of prose and poetry; Sunday,
4 p.m.: readings of original plays inspired by his short stories. Tickets
are $20 for Saturday; $15 for Friday or Sunday events;. $35 for festival

- CHICAGO: The Ukrainian Engineers Society of America (Chicago Branch),
the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America Inc., Illinois Branch,
and the Ukrainian Veterinary Medical Association of America and Canada,
Chicago Branch, will hold their annual banquet and ball with presentation
of debutantes in the State and Grand Ballroom of the Palmer House Hilton

- MORRISTOWN, N.J.: Adrian Bryttan will conduct the New Jersey Youth
Symphony in a concert program featuring Richard Strauss' "Death and
Transformation," Handel's "Water Music," and the U.S. premiere

- JENKINTOWN, Pa.: For those who are interested in learning more about
finding the proper career path or interested in returning to learning,
Manor College, located in Jenkintown, is holding an Open House/Career Day
at 11 a.m. An introduction to the college, complete with faculty, staff
and student discussions, as well as presentations on the various programs
offered, provide a complete overview of Manor. Special seminars will be

- NEW YORK: The Ukrainian Institute of America presents the Olenska/Olenska
Petryshyn art exhibit featuring the works of sisters-artists Arcadia Olenska-Petryshyn
(1934-1996) and Chrystya Olenska (1941-1979). Painting in a series of distinct
phases that ranged from abstraction to realism. Ms. Olenska-Petryshyn was
particularly acclaimed for her often monumental canvases of flora, especially
desert blooms. Ms. Olenska was a versatile artist whose work ranges from
expressive and haunting paintings, mostly still lifes and landscapes, to
reliefs and papier-maché sculptures. The opening reception will
take place at the institute at 6 p.m. The exhibit will be on view through
February 27; works will be available for purchase. The institute is located

- DETROIT: The Ukrainian Engineers Society of America, Detroit chapter,
cordially invites all members and guests to the 2000 winter ball and debutante
presentation at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, 26601 Ryan Road, Warren.
There will be live entertainment, courtesy of Zabava from Canada; open
bar through dinner. Dinner tickets: $55, adults, $45, retirees; dance only:

CORRECTION
In a Preview listing for January 22 (published in the January 9 issue),
one of the sponsors of the "Malanka 2000" being held in the Boston
area was improperly identified. The Ukrainian American Citizens Club, not
the Ukrainian American Coordinating Council (both of whose acronyms are
UACC), was a co-sponsor of the event.
