Marusia Yaworska Fund offers two scholarships for music students


OTTAWA - The Marusia Yaworska Scholarship Fund, administered by the University of Ottawa, will provide at least two scholarships, each valued up to $5,000 (Canadian), to talented students, citizens of Canada or Ukraine, who are pursuing music studies at the graduate level anywhere in the world

The fund, established from the estate of Marusia Yaworska, a music lover - pianist and violinist who taught performing arts for 40 years - awards scholarships to students at the master's, doctoral and post-doctoral levels. Candidates must be enrolled in a recognized music program in and be nominated by their school of music.

In 1999-2000 two students received a Marusia Yaworska Scholarship. Pianist Nathalie Lepine received $5,000 to pursue her musical studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Stephanie Chow was also awarded a $5,000 scholarship to enter the doctor of musical art in piano performance and literature program at Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.

Schools are invited to nominate one student before April 30, providing proper supporting documentation including an official application form, a curriculum vitae, a recording of three works, official transcripts and reference letters.
