Ensemble invite the public to the third concert of the "Bandura Downtown"
series, featuring a solo performance by bandurist Taras Lazurkevych of
Lviv who is on his first U.S. tour. A highlight of the evening will be
a set of epic dumy and other music Mr. Lazurkevych learned from his intensive
study of the recordings of the great New York bandurist Dr. Zynovij Shtokalko

Church invites Bay Area residents to its Easter bake sale and Easter egg/pysanka
demonstration to be held at the parish hall, 345 Seventh St., at 1 p.m.,
following liturgy at 10:30 a.m. The "writing" of pysanky will
be demonstrated by Daria Tscherepenko of San Mateo. Bring your own decorating
kit and learn this ancient art so that you can do your own pysanka; kits

- CAMBRIDGE, Mass.: The Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute Seminar
Series presents "Ukraine and the Vatican's Ostpolitik, 1917-1923,"
with Liliana Hentosh, research associate, Institute for Historical Research,
Lviv State University, and visiting scholar, HURI. The lecture will be
held in the HURI Seminar Room, 1583 Massachusetts Ave., at 4-6 p.m. and

- NEW HAVEN, Conn.: Author Irene Zabytko will be signing copies of her
acclaimed Chornobyl novel "The Sky Unwashed" at the Yale University
Bookstore (Barnes & Noble) at 4-5 p.m. Later the same evening, the
New Haven Chapter of the Children of Chornobyl Relief Fund will hold an
open house at its new office at 1358 Whalley Ave. at 6-7 p.m. At 7 p.m.
Ms. Zabytko will meet with members of the Ukrainian community at the church
hall of St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church at 55 Fowler
St. where she will share her experiences in researching and writing her
novel. CCRF representatives will also present a brief report of the fund's
new initiatives in Rivne and Bila Tserkva. Refreshments will be served.

- NEWARK, N.J.: St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church at 739
Sanford Ave. will host a special ecumenical memorial service at 7 p.m.,
honoring the victims of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. Clergy and laity
from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, the Ukrainian Catholic and
Ukrainian Orthodox Churches will participate in a traditional memorial
moleben for those who have died as a result of the disaster at the Chornobyl
atomic energy station in northern Ukraine. At the conclusion of the memorial
service, the parish will host a symbolic "bread and water" reception
honoring the Chornobyl victims. The guest speaker will be Irene Zabytko,
author of "The Sky Unwashed," a novel about Chornobyl's aftermath
recently published by Algonquin Press. Ms. Zabytko will share her experiences
while traveling to Ukraine and interviewing Chornobyl survivors. A contributing
writer for the Orlando Sentinel, Ms. Zabytko has been nominated for the
Barnes & Noble "Discover Great New Authors" series for her
portrayal of life in the Chornobyl "permanent exclusion zone."
Her novel has been highly recommended by Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews,
which have called the novel "riveting, poignant, inspiring" and
"unforgettable." Ms. Zabytko will sign copies of her book in
the St. John's church hall during the reception. The event is co-sposnored
by the New Jersey Chapter of the Children of Chornobyl Relief Fund. For

Constantine and Bishop Robert Moskal. A banquet and concert will be held
at noon, Sunday, May 21, at St. Josaphat's Astrodome Hall. Two Ukrainian
choirs, one adult and one youth, will sing liturgical music. Sunday event
