by Halyna Makar

PITTSBURGH - The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the U.S.A. will celebrate the millennium of the birth of Jesus Christ with a two-day event here August 12-13. Ukrainian Orthodox bishops from around the world, members of the Permanent Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Beyond the Borders of Ukraine, will travel to the United States to participate in the UOC/U.S.A. event, "Celebration of the 2000th Anniversary of the Birth of Christ," which will be held at the David Lawrence Conference Center and Doubletree Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh.

Included in the program will be a hierarchical divine liturgy, presentations on such topics as iconography, Christian morality, monasticism and the role of women in the Church.

A concert of liturgical choral music will be performed Sunday afternoon by the Ukrainian Cultural Trust Choir of Pittsburgh, and a special program for young adults is being planned as part of the two-day celebration.
