St. George Academy presents diplomas to 40 seniors

NEW YORK - On Saturday, June 10, Bishop Basil Losten bestowed academic diplomas on 40 seniors at St. George Academy in New York City.

After a 2 p.m. divine liturgy celebrated by the Very Rev. Patrick Paschak OSBM, pastor, the graduates marched to the school auditorium where prayer was followed by the singing of the American and Ukrainian national anthems.

The salutatory address was given by Alina Kokovska, whose four-year average was 94.39.

After the commencement address by Bishop Losten, diplomas were awarded and the following awards given:

• $1,000 Turansky Scholarship to Khrystyna Leskiv;
  
  
• $750 Self-Reliance Scholarship to Alina Kokovska;
  
  
• $500 Anne Frishman Scholarship to Vera Chopenko;
  
  
• $100 Ukrainian American Soccer Association Award to Volodymyr Gulin;
  
  
• $100 Ukrainian National Women's League of America Branch 83 Award to Roksolana Darovska;
  
  
• $100 U.S. Savings Bonds from Dr. and Mrs. Walter Baron to Kristy Alkabaz, Jenny Filipowicz, Bianca Soto and Danuta Turek;
  
  
• $50 Scholastic Award from B & M Meats to Kate Lankamer.

The valedictory address was then given by Khrystyna Leskiv, whose four-year average was 94.4.

The ceremonies ended with the singing of the alma mater and the recessional.
