- LEHIGHTON, Pa.: The Ukrainian Homestead, located here in the lower
Poconos at 1230 Beaver Run Drive, will host its eighth annual Ukrainian
Folk Festival. Saturday's event will run from noon to 7 p.m., with the
main stage show at 3 p.m. Featured acts will include: the Dnipriany Music
Ensemble, Holubka Trio, Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble and Chaika Ukrainian
Dance Ensemble from Ontario. A zabava (dance) at 9 p.m. will conclude Saturday's
events. The festival will continue on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. A variety
of vendors will display arts, crafts and Ukrainian foods. Admission to
the festival is $5 per person, per day; or $7 per person for both days.

- TORONTO: The Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Toronto Branch, will hold
a celebration of the ninth anniversary of the independence of Ukraine at
St. Volodymyr Cultural Center, 1280 Dundas St. W. and Fourth Line in Oakville.
The celebration will include guest speaker Hryhorii Omelchenko, national
deputy and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Fighting Corruption
and Crime. An ecumenical service will be celebrated at 11 a.m.; a concert
follows at 2:30 p.m. Included in the festivities are a "yarmarok,"
and a barbecue; hot lunches and hot and cold drinks will be available.

- BUFFALO, N.Y.: "Ukrainian Day" sponsored by Ukrainian Congress
Committee of America, Buffalo Branch to commemorate the anniversary of
Ukraine's independence and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the
Buffalo Branch of the UCCA, will take place at Ukrainian Home Dnipro, 562
Genesee St. Festivities begin at noon; a moleben will be celebrated at
2 p.m. Cultural presentations will feature the Ukrainian dance troupe Dunai
from St. Catharines, Ontario. Ethnic food, arts, crafts, pastries, thirst-quenching
beverages, a Chinese auction, raffles, games and a kids' bouncing room

- NEW YORK: Adrian Karatnycky, president of Freedom House, will discuss
"Ukraine's Perspectives on its Political Development" during
a special brown bag lunch hosted by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of
America at its national office, 203 Second Ave. (between 12th and 13th
streets), at 12:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring their own lunches;

- WASHINGTON: Washington's classical radio station WGMS celebrates Ukrainian
Independence Day on August 24 from 6 a.m. until midnight. The Washington

- SOUTH BOUND BROOK, N.J.: The Central New Jersey Branch of the Committee
to Aid Ukraine is celebrating the Independence Day of Ukraine at the Ukrainian
Cultural Center on Davidson Road at 7 p.m. The main address will be given
by Ukraine's Consul General in New York Serhiy Pohoreltsev. The artistic
program will include performances by several outstanding performers from
Ukraine and the United States. Admission is $10; proceeds will benefit
children's hospitals and gifted youths in Ukraine. For information call

- HORSHAM, Pa.: The Ukrainian Sports Center Tryzub will host a festival
celebrating the ninth anniversary of Ukrainian Independence Day here at
Tryzubivka, located at Lower State and County Line roads. The festivities
are scheduled for 1-8 p.m. Admission is $10; children under age 13, free.
