- ANN ARBOR, Mich.: The University of Michigan Ukrainian Club is hosting
a photography exhibit titled "Chornobyl: 13 Years Later." The
photographs, on loan from the Ukrainian National Museum of Chicago, depict
life in the aftermath of the Chornobyl nuclear accident. The exhibit opens
in the Media Union Gallery, North Campus, at 8 p.m. A short film will be
available for viewing, and refreshments will be provided. For further information

- NEW YORK: The Ukrainian Art and Literary Club and the New York Bandura
Ensemble invite the public to the first concert of this year's "Bandura
Downtown" series, titled "Kobzari: Music from the Ukrainian Epic
Tradition," with bandurist Julian Kytasty. The program will include
a variety of musical genres from the repertoire of the kobzari (wandering
bards), including the improvisatory "dumy", which they perpetuated
in the ancient tradition of Ukrainian epic singing. Donation: $7. The evening

- NEW YORK: The Shevchenko Scientific Society will hold a lecture by
Oleksander Zaytsev, assistant professor of history, Ukrainian State University
of Forestry, Lviv and visiting Fulbright Scholar, Harriman Institute, Columbia
University, on the topic "Fascism and Ukrainian Nationalism, 1920-1930."
The lecture will be held at the society's building, 63 Fourth Ave. (between

- EAST HANOVER, N.J.: The Ukrainian American Professionals and Businesspersons
Association of New York and New Jersey invites the public to a presentation
by John Hynansky, president/CEO, Winner Automotive Group, the first American
car dealership in Ukraine, on the topic: "Doing Business in Ukraine."
The presentation will be held at the Ramada Hotel, 130 Route 10 (westbound),
at 7:30 p.m.
- JENKINTOWN, Pa.: The Voloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble is hosting its
annual Autumn Ball at the Ukrainian Educational Cultural Center, 700 Cedar
Road. The dance will begin at 9 p.m., with music by the Luna orchestra.
There will be a performance by the Voloshky Ensemble at 9:45 p.m. Tickets:

- ARLINGTON, Va.: The Washington Group Cultural Fund in cooperation with
the Embassy of Ukraine presents Natalia Khoma, cellist, and Volodymyr Vynnytsky,
pianist, at The Rosslyn Spectrum Theater in the third concert of a series
to raise funds for musical instruments at the Lviv Conservatory. The program
includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Cassadó, Granados, Liszt and
Lysenko. Suggested donation: $20; $15, seniors and students. The theater
is located at 1611 N. Kent St. (two blocks east of Rosslyn Metro Station).
Free garage parking is available in the rear of the building off Arlington

- CAMBRIDGE, Mass.: The Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute will present
a lecture by Dr. Olga Andrievsky, Trent University, titled "Dangerous
Subversions and Fatal Illusions: The Ukrainian Question on the Eve of the
First World War." The lecture will be held in the institute seminar

- HOUSTON: Pianist Volodymyr Vynnytsky will appear as guest artist with
cellist Vagram Saradjian in the Shostakovich Festival 2000 presented by
the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. The concert program
of chamber music will feature, among others, Messrs. Saradjian, professor
at MSM, and Vynnytsky performing Shostakovich's Sonata for Cello and Piano,
Op. 40. The festival, which runs November 15-19, comprises four programs
of music by Shostakovich; the concerts will be held at the Moores Opera
House, University of Houston Main Campus, (I-45 at Cullen Blvd., Entrance

- NEW YORK: The Harriman Institute at Columbia University presents the
first in a series of roundtables on the topic of language policy and status
in Ukraine, featuring Dr. Assya Humesky, University of Michigan, who will
speak on "The Language Situation in Ukraine Today and, Probably, Tomorrow."
The series, chaired by Dr. Antonina Berezovenko, will be held in the International
Affairs Building, 420 W. 118th St., Room 1512, at noon-2 p.m.
- TORONTO: The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University
of Toronto is holding a lecture by Taras Koznarsky, University of Toronto,
on the topic "Ukrainian Literary Almanacs, 1831-1861." The lecture
will be held at the University of Toronto, University College, 15 King's
College Circle, Room 256, at 4 p.m.

- NEW YORK: "Music at the Institute" presents The New York
Vocal Arts Ensemble, Raymond Beegle, artistic director, in a program of
works by Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, Johann Strauss II, Beethoven, as well
as American songs from original editions. The concert, made possible by
a special grant from the Ukrainian Institute of America, will be held at
the institute, 2 E. 79th St., at 8 p.m. Donation: $20; UIA members, $15;

- CHICAGO: The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art presents a concert by
Valentina Lisitsa and Alexei Kuznetsoff, piano duo, in a program of works
by Schubert, Rachmaninoff and Liszt. The concert will be held at the institute,
