- WHIPPANY, N.J.: The New Jersey Committee of the One Dollar Fund - Social
Services of the World Congress of Ukrainians is holding a presentation
on "International Trafficking of Women and Children," with guest
speakers Bozhena Olshaniwsky, president, Americans for Human Rights in
Ukraine (AHRU), and Walter Zalisko, member, Governor's Advisory Ethnic

St. Thomas More College will host the 2000 Mohyla Lecture, "Saskatchewan-Ukraine

- EAST HANOVER, N.J.: The Ukrainian National Women's League of America,
Branch 75, is holding a dance at the Ramada Hotel, Route 10, starting at
9 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be a show titled, "Club Tropicana";

- WILLIMANTIC, Conn.: A "Ukrainian Night" dance, with music
by Zorepad, will be held at the Ukrainian National Home on Route 66 at
8 p.m.-midnight. Advance tickets are available by calling (860) 423-0564,
or may be purchased at the dance - $15 for adults, $10 for students. Traditional
Ukrainian food will be available. Special guests at the dance will be members
of the crew of the Batkivschyna who, this past summer, sailed their tall
ship from Kyiv to the United States to participate in OpSail 2000.
- DEARBORN, Mich.: Members of the Detroit metropolitan area of Help Us
Help the Children Inc., a voluntary, non-profit charitable organization
working to improve the quality of life and health of children living in
orphanages in Ukraine, invite the public to fund-raising event - "The
Phantom of the Opera Live and Silent Auction." The fund-raiser will
be held at the Henry Ford Mansion at Fairlane Estates, 4901 Evergreen Road,
University of Michigan, Dearborn Campus, at 7-10 p.m. Donation: $55 per
person; $100 per couple; price includes cocktails, appetizers and dessert.

68, presents an "Art Show and Sale," featuring the art of well-known
Ukrainian artists from Ukraine, and New York City, as well as local artists
from Syracuse and the surrounding areas. Among featured artists will be
Jacques Hnizdovsky. All are invited to attend. The proceeds from the exhibit
will benefit charitable causes. The exhibit and sale will take place at

- OTTAWA: The Ottawa branches of the Ukrainian Social Services and the
Ukrainian Catholic Women's League are holding a panel discussion on the
topic "Trafficking of Women from Ukraine" with Natalka Kocan
of Bowmanville, Ontario, and Marta Baziuk of Toronto. Ms. Kocan has worked
for over three years with the International Organization of Migration in
Kyiv on programs to combat trafficking of women from Ukraine, including
information campaigns using radio, television and print media. Ms. Baziuk,
as former director of a program funded by the U.S. Agency for International
Development to prevent the trafficking of women from Ukraine, was responsible
for establishing women's centers that offered free job-skills training,
legal services and information outreach, and provided services such as
telephone hot-lines. The panel will be held at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic
Shrine, 952 Green Valley Crescent, at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. Coffee

a lecture by Oxana Shevel, Harvard University, titled "Crimean Tatars

lecture, as part of its fall seminar series, by Andriy Zayarnyuk, department
of history and classics, University of Alberta, titled "1846 - Not
that Bloody: Polish Conspirators, Peasants and Petty Gentry in the Sambir
Circle." The lecture will be held in the Heritage Lounge, Athabasca
Hall, at 3:30 p.m.

- TORONTO: The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University
of Toronto presents the annual Ukrainian Famine lecture with Ian A. Hunter,
professor emeritus, University of Western Ontario and former general counsel
of the International Commission of Jurists Inquiry into the 1932-1933 Famine
in Ukraine, who will speak on "Revisting the Ukrainian Famine of 1932-1933."
Co-sponsors of the lecture are the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Toronto
Branch, and the Center for Russian and East European Studies. The lecture
will be held at 4-6 p.m. at the Munk Center for International Studies,

"Gold of the Nomads: Scythian Treasures from Ancient Ukraine"
at the Brooklyn Muscum, has been rescheduled from November 19 to December
10. Fee: $15 per person (includes bus fare and admission to the Scythian
exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum). Meeting place: The Ukrainian Museum,
