Tsymbala to perform at Carnegie Hall with New England Symphonic Ensemble


NEW YORK - Tenor Roman Tsymbala will appear in Carnegie Hall as one of the soloists with The New England Symphonic Ensemble, Jonathan Griffith, conducting, in Mozart's Requiem in D minor. The performance is part of the concert dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which will take place Sunday, January 14, Isaac Stern Auditorium, at 2 p.m.

A performer of leading roles with the Lviv Opera Theater, Mr. Tsymbala, 1992 winner of the Sullivan Foundation's Opera Competition, has developed an international career, performing principal operatic roles throughout Eastern Europe, Asia and the United States, where he made his debut in 1992.

Highlights from his 1999 season include Ismaele in Verdi's "Nabucco" with the Janacek Opera in Brno, the Czech Republic, and Canio in Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" at the Liszt Concert Hall in Budapest, Hungary. Other roles of note include Turiddu in Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana," Radames in Verdi's "Aida," and Edgardo in Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor," all with the Slovak National Opera.

Mr. Tsymbala also participated, to critical acclaim, in the prestigious Wexford Music Festival in Ireland. He also has performed at the summer concert series of the Music and Art Center of Greene County in the Grazhda in Jewett, N.Y.

Appearing with Mr. Tsymbala as soloists at the Carnegie concert will be Marguerite Krull, soprano; Leah Creek, mezzo-soprano; and Ted Christopher, baritone. Also on the program are Apostolos Paraskevas' "Night Wanderings" and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67, with the National Festival Orchestra, Lukas Foss, conducting.
