- HARTFORD, Conn.: A Ukrainian New Year's Eve dance - Malanka - will
be held at the Ukrainian National Home, 961 Wethersfield Ave., at 9 p.m.-2
a.m. Dance to the tunes of the Vodohray Orchestra. Donation: adults, $20;
students, $15. For tickets and table reservations call the Ukrainian Gift

p.m., or Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The malanka is sponsored by the Hartford
branches of the Organization for the Defense of Four Freedoms for Ukraine
(ODFFU), the ODFFU Women's Association and the Ukrainian American Youth
Association (SUM).
- PHILADELPHIA: The Ukrainian Federation of America and the library at
the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center invite the public to a meeting
with Mykola Horbal, poet, former Soviet dissident and deputy in the Kyiv
City Council and the Verkhovna Rada. The evening's program will include
an introduction by Nadia Svitlychna, a presentation by Mr. Horbal, including
the introduction of his new book, "Odyn iz Shistdesiaty" (One
of Sixty), and an exhibition of the artwork of Bohdan Horbal, which will
include a documentary film about the artist. The event will take place
in the Chernyk Gallery of the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center,
700 Cedar Road, Jenkintown, Pa. Donation: $10. Refreshments will be served.

- CLEVELAND, Ohio: MN2 Productions presents "Shadows of Our Forgotten
Ancestors," an original dance-theater piece based on the novel by
Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky ("Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors"). Directed
by Michael Flohr with choreography by Sarah Morrison, Natalie Kapeluck
and Roman Lewkowicz, "Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors" tells
the story of Ivan and Marichka by fusing modern and traditional dance,
traditional Ukrainian folk music, puppetry and theater. Performances are
on January 25-26 at 8 p.m. and January 27 at 3 p.m. in the Gordon Square
Theater, 6409 Detroit Ave. Tickets: $15, general admission; $12, seniors
