- NEW YORK: The Ukrainian Medical Association New York Metropolitan Chapter
in cooperation with the Self Reliance Association of American Ukrainians,
New York Branch will hold the third in a series of community based medical
lectures at 2 p.m. The featured physicians include Dr. Mykola Alyakewycz,
whose topic will be "Common Urological Problems," and Dr. Ihor
Magun, whose topic will be "Chest Pain." The presentations will
take place at 98 Second Ave. Admission is free; refreshments will be served.

- CAMBRIDGE, Mass.: The Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute will present
a lecture by Oleksander Halenko, senior research fellow at the Institute
for Political and Ethnic Studies, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,
and Shklar Fellow of the Ukrainian Research Institute, titled "The
Legend of Roksolana, or: How a Turkish Sultan's Wife Became a Ukrainian
National Heroine." The lecture will be held in the Institute Seminar

- EDMONTON: The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies and the National
Film Board of Canada present the Edmonton premiere of "My Mother's
Village" by acclaimed director and stills photographer John Paskievich.
The documentary film explores how children of refugees and immigrants are
caught between two worlds: Canada, where they live; and Ukraine, the distant
land of their parents. The film will be screened at the Provincial Museum
of Alberta, 12845 102 Ave., at 7 p.m., followed by a discussion and reception
for Mr. Paskievich. Tickets: adults, $7; students/children, $5; children

- NEW YORK: The Yaroslav Kulynych Film Studio presents the videofilm
"In Celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence,"
featuring highlights of events held in Kyiv as part of the 10th anniversary
independence celebrations August 18-24, 2001. The following will be shown:
The III World Forum of Ukrainians: The Plenary Session (August 18); Cultural
Program and Concert featuring speakers and artists from the Ukrainian diaspora
(August 19, Ukraina Palace); III WFU: Passage of the Resolutions (August
20); Gala Concert, featuring leading artists from Ukraine (August 23);
and, Military Parade and Youth Rally on Kyiv's Independence Square (August
24th). The video showing, which is sponsored by the World Congress of Ukrainians,
the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, and the Ukrainian American
Coordinating Council, will be shown at the Ukrainian National Home, 142
Second Ave., at 2-5:30 p.m.
- DANIELSON, Conn.: "Children of Chornobyl," photographs by
Joseph Sywenkyj, is on view at Quinebaug Valley Community College. The
exhibit opened at the college gallery, 742 Upper Maple St., on January
21 and will be on view through February 22. A reception will be held February
5 at 6-7:30 p.m. The "Children of Chornobyl" photographs have
been exhibited throughout the United States, including the United Nations
Visitor's Lobby and the Russell Building in Washington. Gallery hours:
