Wins university's concerto competition

NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. - The University of New Hampshire department of music announced the winner of its recent concerto competition, sophomore Katria Kuzmowycz.

Ms. Kuzmowycz is a music education major at the University of New Hampshire. A flute player, she has won numerous competitions and performs as a soloist with various groups. She is a member of the wind symphony orchestra, woodwind quintet and several other ensembles at UNH, and has several private students as well.

Traditionally, winners of the university's concerto competition have been upperclassmen, but Ms. Kuzmowycz's strong academic standing and exceptional performance ability were ample reasons to accord her this honor. She is currently in an accelerated program, planning to graduate in 2004 with both bachelor's and master's degrees in music/music education, and hopes to pursue a second post-graduate degree in music performance at another institution.

Ms. Kuzmowycz is a member of the New York City Plast Branch and the Lisovi Mavky Plast sorority. She resides in North Scituate, R.I.

As the recipient of this university award, Ms. Kuzmowycz will be performing with the UNH Orchestra as a featured soloist on Sunday, March 3, playing Antonio Vivaldi's Piccolo concerto in C Major, Op. 79. The concert will be held in the Johnson Theatre at 3 p.m.

Ms. Kuzmowycz is a member of Ukrainian National Association Branch 450.
