UKRAINIAN DEBUTANTE BALLS

Newark Plast's ball presents 12 members of scouting group


WHIPPANY, N.J. - Plast-Pryiat and the Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization branch of Newark, N.J., held the annual Plast debutante ball on Saturday, February 2, at the Hanover Marriott's Grand Ballroom.

The masters of ceremonies were Maria Welyczkowski and Lubodar Olesnycky, who presented the 12 beautiful debutantes to the Ukrainian American community. The presentation included members of the "Maky" and "Kalyna" troops from Newark and the "Piranhas" from New Brunswick.

Family members, friends and guests watched as the debutantes and their escorts entered the room with grace, elegance and poise. The promenade of debutantes was choreographed by Oksana Bauer.

The program also included a welcome from the branch's president ("stanychna") Roksolana Misilo; a welcome on behalf of the debutantes delivered by the leader ("hurtkova") of the "Maky," Olha Halibey, and a benediction by the Rev. Bohdan Lukie, pastor of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Newark.

The girls presented to society accompanied by their escorts were as follows: Olha Halibey with Antin Durbak, Alexandra Kachala with Mark Chraplyvy, Christina Laschuk with Nicholas Poruchynsky, Natalie Mandzy with Daniel Tyshovnytsky, Katie Nahnybida with Adrian Wirt, Julianna Pedersen with Michael Pylyp, Alexandra Rakoczy with Daniel Koziupa, Tamara Rychok with Peter Krup, Christina Semanyshyn with Gavin Harkins, Laryssa Wirstiuk with Yurij Lojko, Kristina Wirt with Alexander Oryshkevych and Liliana Yaworsky with Maxim Artymyshyn.

Over 450 guests enjoyed the ball to the music of the Tempo and Zolota Bulava orchestras. It was a magical evening for the debutantes, their families and guests alike.

A special program book featuring a biography and photo of each debutante was prepared as a keepsake for all those attending the ball.
