Christina Holowchak Debarry receives awards at national exhibitions

NEW YORK - Christina Holowchak Debarry, president emeritus of the Pastel Society of America (PSA), recently received two Gold Medal Awards for her pastels at two separate national exhibitions.

Most recently, Ms. Debarry was awarded the Dianne B. Bernhard Gold Medal Award in Pastel for her "Peruvian Lilies" at the National Exhibition of the Allied Artists of America at a reception and award presentation held November 24 at the National Arts Club in New York City.

The Allied Artists of America was founded in New York City in 1914, and continues to further the cause of contemporary American artists through its Annual National Open Exhibition. The organization has offices and exhibition galleries at the elegant historical landmark, the National Arts Club, located at 15 Gramercy Park South.

In September Ms. Debarry received the Gold Medal Art Spirit Foundation, Diane B. Bernhard Award for Pastel at the Audubon Artists. NYC Audubon Artists is a group of artist professionals practicing in five disciplines - aquamedia, graphics/drawings, oils, pastels and sculpture. It has been presenting an annual exhibition for over six decades and lists among its members such notables as Andrew Wyeth.

This summer, Ms. Debarry was invited to be a juror of selection on two national exhibitions: the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and the Allied Artists of America.

In spring 2003, Ms. Debarry will serve as co-chair of the PSA exhibit to be held at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio.

She is also taking part in Europastel, a traveling pastel exhibition that take places in two stages: in Italy (October-November 2002) and in St. Petersburg, Russia (February-March 2003), which is celebrating the tercentenary of the founding of the city of St. Petersburg.
