Friday, December 13
- NEW YORK: The Ukrainian Art and Literary Club and Mayana Gallery present
"Ritual of Andriy Kalyta" as part of the "Archetypes of
Ukrainian Culture" series. The program will include magical songs
and acts, divinations and ritual foods associated with the Ukrainian winter
solstice celebration. The enactment will be led by Natalia Sonevytska;
with Lavrentia Turkewicz, playing the bandura. Donation: $7; students,
$5. Featured in the gallery is Christmas exhibit. The evening will be held
at the Mayana Gallery, 136 Second Ave., fourth floor, at 7 p.m. For information,

- WINNIPEG: Youths and parents - all interested parties - are invited
to come to a general meeting regarding the proposed Ukrainian high school
in Winnipeg. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the UNF Hall, 935 Main

- NEW YORK: The Shevchenko Scientific Society presents a program featuring
Dr. Mykola Zhulynskyj, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Institute
of Literature; Dr. Oleh Romaniv, member, National Academy of Sciences of
Ukraine, and president, Shevchenko Scientific Society in Ukraine; and Dr.
Pavlo Hrytsenko, dialectology department, Institute of Ukrainian Language,
National Academy of Sciences. The program will focus on the current socio-political,
cultural, and informational situation in Ukraine. The presentation will
be held at the society's building, 63 Fourth Ave. (between Ninth and 10th

- WHIPPANY, N.J.: The Ukrainian American Youth Association (SUM), Whippany
Branch, invites all good boys and girls (both young and old) to a Christmas
play and a visit from St. Nicholas at 3:30 p.m. in the church hall of St.
John the Baptist, Route 10 East and South Jefferson Road. The heavenly
office will be open at 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Please mark packages clearly and
note that there is a one-gift limit per child per family. For more information

Preview of Events is a listing of Ukrainian community events open to
the public. It is a service provided at minimal cost ($20 per listing) by
The Ukrainian Weekly to the Ukrainian community.
To have an event listed in Preview of Events please send information,
in English, written in Preview format, i.e., in a brief paragraph that includes
the date, place, type of event, sponsor, admission, full names of persons
and/or organizations involved, and a phone number to be published for readers
who may require additional information. Items should be no more than 100
words long; longer submissions are subject to editing. Items not written
in Preview format or submitted without all required information will not
be published.
Preview items must be received no later than one week before the desired
date of publication. No information will be taken over the phone. Items
will be published only once, unless otherwise indicated. Please include
payment for each time the item is to appear and indicate date(s) of issue(s)
in which the item is to be published. Also, please include the phone number
of a person who may be contacted by The Weekly during daytime hours. Information
