- ROCHESTER, N.Y.: The fifth annual Children of Chornobyl Golf Tournament
will take place this year at Shadow Pines Golf Club, 600 Whalen Road, Penfield,
N.Y. Registration will start at 11:30 a.m. The format of the tournament
is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A donation of
$85 includes 18 holes of golf with cart, practice range balls, lunch, beverages,
dinner and prizes. Players may register as an entire team or sign up individually
and be matched up with a team. Checks made payable to CCRF Rochester -

- Golf Pub Night will be held on Friday, September 12, at the Ukrainian
Home of Rochester, 1970 Empire Blvd., Penfield, N.Y., at 8 p.m. with prizes,

- EDMONTON: The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies is holding a
lecture, as part of its fall seminar series, by Dr. Roman Rykalyuk, Computing
Science Center, Lviv National University, titled "Distance Learning
at Lviv National University: A Model for Ukraine's Universities?"
(in Ukrainian). The lecture will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the CIUS, 450

- NEW YORK: The Shevchenko Scientific Society is holding a conference
dedicated to the memory of George Y. Shevelov (1908-2002), professor emeritus
at Columbia University and a longstanding honorary member of the Shevchenko
Scientific Society. The session will be chaired by Prof. Assa Humesky,
University of Michigan, with introductory remarks by Larissa Onyshkevych,
Shevchenko Scientific Society president. Taking part in the conference
are: Prof. John Fizer, Rutgers University; Prof. Andriy Danylenko, Pace
University; Antonina Berezovenko, Columbia University; and Oksana Solovey
and Oksana Radysh, Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences. The conference

- CHICAGO: The Ukrainian Genocide Famine Foundation-U.S.A. is sponsoring
a commemorative event in observance of the 70th anniversary of the 1932-1933
Genocide in Ukraine. Memorial services begin at 1 p.m., to be followed
by a short program in the church courtyard at the the Genocide Victims'
Memorial. A memorial luncheon - "holodnyi obid," will be held
in the church cultural center, with a keynote speaker and musical interlude.
The memorial service and a luncheon will be held at St. Andrew Ukrainian
Orthodox Church and Center, 300 E. Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale, Ill.

of Kharkiv and Poltava, Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church; department
of the history of Ukrainian literature, Kharkiv National University, titled
"The Apostolic Mission of the Church and the Social Service of Orthodox
Communities in Ukraine" (in Ukrainian). The lecture will be followed
by a presentation of Profs. Serhii Plokhy's and Frank E. Sysyn's book "Religion
and Nation in Modern Ukraine." The lecture and presentation will be
held at 7:30 p.m. at the CIUS, 450 Athabasca Hall, University of Alberta.

National Women's League of America will hold a "Soyuzianka Day"
at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall, 1700 Brooks
Blvd., at 2 p.m. The main attraction is a fashion show featuring embroidered
women's clothing created by and from the private collection of Iwanna Martynec,
president of UNWLA Branch 86. Come and join us for "Soyuzianka Afternoon

presents the inaugural lecture of its newly appointed chairholder, Dr.
Dominique Arel, associate professor of political science. The public lecture

- YONKERS, N.Y.: Sign your 3- and 4-year-olds up for the Ukrainian pre-school
(Svitlychka) organized by Branch 30 of the Ukrainian National Women's League
of America. The Svitlychka meets on Saturdays at 10 a.m.-noon at St. Michael's
Church, Shonnard Place at North Broadway, starting Saturday, September
13.
- UNIONDALE, N.Y.: Mriya, the Ukrainian Dance Ensemble at St. Vladimir's
Parish, is currently accepting enrollment applications for instruction
of children, age 5-17, beginners through advanced levels, from Long Island,
Brooklyn and Queens. Classes are held Monday evenings at the parish center,
located at 226 Uniondale Ave., near Hofstra University/Nassau Coliseum,
just one mile off the Meadowbrook Parkway. Ample parking is available.
Classes are taught by Orlando Pagan, former principal dancer with Roma-Pryma
Bohachevsky's Syzokryli ensemble and current member of the Dance Theater
of Harlem. Registration is at the parish center on Mondays at 6-7 p.m.
