Ukrainian folk arts programs also part of summer at Grazhda


JEWETT, N.Y. - A rich and varied program of Ukrainian folk arts, held under the auspices of the Music and Art Center of Greene County, is offered as part of the summer program at the Grazhda.

Among the workshops offered are four one-week courses in the following:

A two-week Ukrainian folk-singing program, under the direction of Anna Bachynska - former soprano with the Lviv Opera and currently, a music teacher and choir director in New York City - will be held August 1-12. The program is devised for children age 4-9. The very popular children's recital, which includes a storytelling-based theater presentation, is the culmination of the 10-day program.

The workshops are held daily, Monday-Friday, at the Grazhda or at a designated venue in the area. Fees: one-week workshops, $40; two-week folk-singing program, $70. The workshops are funded, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts.

The Grazhda, which forms part of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church and cultural complex, is situated on Route 23 A in the Hunter region of the Catskill Mountains.
