PHILADELPHIA – Recognizing the need to help newly arrived immigrants in preparing for citizenship exams, United Ukrainian American Relief Committee (UUARC) in the spring of 2002 established a preparatory course to meet those needs.
The course was spearheaded and is still taught by Metodij Boretsky, head of the UUARC Information Bureau. To date, this course has been offered 27 times, with the most recent one concluding on April 7. Several hundred people have benefited from this course and became citizens of the United States.
This year, six people attended and passed the course successfully. They were Svitlana Zarayska, Maria Hayda, Bohdanna Lehenska, Petro Skalozub, Valentyn Sulzhyk and Tatiana Shafar.
The course is 10 weeks long, and the classes are taught on Fridays at 7-9 p.m. at the home office of the UUARC. They are free of charge. Course number 28 will be offered beginning on October 20.
