WASHINGTON – On July 25, while U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was testifying in Congress and announced the formal policy reaffirming U.S. rejection of “Russia’s attempted annexation of Crimea,” a copy of the Crimea Declaration was presented to Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly (right), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Serhiy Kyslytsia (left) and Crimean Tatar leader Mustafa Dzhemilev (second from left). They were at the State Department, where they received a framed copy of the document from Dr. A. Wess Mitchell, assistant secretary of state, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Ambassador Chaly characterized the declaration as “A historic, timely and powerful decision of our strategic partner – the United States.”
