CHICAGO – Over 30 camp counselors in Chicago, Philadelphia and Whippany, N.J., completed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid classes this spring in preparation for the upcoming 2016 camping season.
A grant from the UMANA (Ukrainian Medical Association of North America) Foundation enabled camp counselors from the Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization to learn skills in preparation for unforeseen accidents and health related events. By performing simple procedures and following certain guidelines, it is possible to save lives through basic treatment until professional medical help arrives.
UMANA Foundation’s CPR project began in 2009. Grants totaling $40,820 have allowed 420 counselors and campers in the United States and Canada to receive training in these basic life support skills. Participants have included counselors from Plast Ukrainian Scouting organization, the Ukrainian American Youth Association, Ukrainian Democratic Youth Association, several sports camps and a dance camp in over eight cities in North America.
