The most exciting time for a Plast scout is in the summer months, and this year Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization has a variety of camps and activities planned for its members.

Plast counselor training camp for young men will kick off the summer camp season this year starting with “Lisova Shkola,” an intense camp for preparing camp counselors and teaching them wilderness skills and survival, which will take place in Hunter, N.Y., on June 22 to July 3.

Training for Plast counselors for “novatstvo,” or cub scouts, will take place on June 23 to July 2 at the Novyi Sokil campground in North Collins, N.Y. This camp provides aspiring counselors with challenging activities, programs and plans to implement at summer camps and during the year.

Three-week camps for novatstvo (age 6-11) and “yunatstvo” (scouts age 12-18) will take place on July 6-27 at the Vovcha Tropa campground in East Chatham, N.Y., Novyi Sokil in North Collins, N.Y., and Pysanyi Kamin in Middlefield, Ohio.

In addition, a special two-week camp for older teens (scouts age 16-18), popularly known as “U2,” will be held at the Vovcha Tropa campground on July 6-21. For cub scouts not quite ready for three-week camp, there is a one-week “Pochatkovyi Tabir” (beginner’s camp) for children age 6-7 on July 21-27. The Seattle Group of Plast is organizing a two-week camp for novatstvo and yunatstvo at Camp Sheppard Boy Scout Camp in Enumclaw, Wash., on August 4-17.

Those who wish to extend their summer camp experiences can choose from special-focus camps, including a Horseback Riding Camp at High Point Equestrian Center in Montague, N.J., on June 23-29 for campers age 11-17; Cycling Camp in Pittsburgh on July 23-August 4; and “Morskyi Tabir” (Sea Scouting Camp) in Saxton, Pa., on August 3-10. Older scouts working toward the Plast equivalent of eagle scout can attend a special camp dubbed “KVT” at Vovcha Tropa on July 28 to August 3.

Plast summer camps are the most fun part of the Plast experience and are a culmination of the knowledge gained and activities experienced during the entire Plast year. It’s important for a child to be familiarized with Plast’s program and structure, as well as regional activities, before attending a summer camp.
