NEW YORK – A special Ukrainian Historical Encounters Series titled “Ukraine at 25: A December 1 Remembrance,” will be held on December 1 to coincide with the 25th anniversary when over 91 percent of Ukraine’s electorate voted in a national referendum to support Ukraine’s declaration of independence.

The evening forum, which will be held at the Shevchenko Scientific Society in New York City at 5-9 p.m., will bring together scholars, diplomats and eyewitnesses of the historic events that led to Ukraine’s renewed independence.  The gathering will feature three major presentations, an extended panel discussion and light dinner fare. The speakers will not only reflect upon the dramatic events of 1991, but will take a fresh, critical look at Ukraine on the 25th anniversary of its independence and comment on prospects for its future.

The co-sponsoring organizations are: the Center for U.S.-Ukrainian Relations, the Shevchenko Scientific Society of America, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, the Ukrainian National Association and the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America.

The Ukrainian American community is invited to attend the “Ukraine at 25: A December 1 Remembrance” forum – the culminating event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. For additional information or to register for the free event, readers may call the UCCA National Office at 212-228-6840 or e-mail [email protected], as seating is limited.
