OXFORD, Mich. – Seventy-eight men and women golfers from the metropolitan Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, area came together on Saturday, July 22, to participate in the Ukrainian Cultural Center’s Michael Yurkanin Memorial Golf Outing at Devil’s Ridge Golf Club in Oxford, Mich.

With much fun, cajoling and camaraderie, and the passing of a soaking rain storm, spirits were not dampened. The shot gun golf competition resumed, and the esprit de corps continued. The day quickly turned into a picture-perfect, balmy summer afternoon. The festivities and entertainment carried on during the post-golf reception and dinner held in the club house.

Prior to dinner, Walter Pytiak, master of ceremonies, introduced Edward Holowchak, head of the Ukrainian Cultural Center Golf Committee, who thanked everyone for their participation. He also thanked the many Ukrainian sponsors and the corporate sponsors who helped make the fifth annual fund-raiser for the Warren, Mich., center a great success.

Introductions were also made of Walter Kozar, head of the board of directors of the Ukrainian Cultural Center, as well as the other members of the golf outing committee: Alex Maritczak, Michael Andriaschko, Jaroslaw Andriaschko, Bohdan Koshiw, Pavlo Prokop and Mr. Pytiak. There was also a special thank you to Russell Jablinsky for photographing the entire golfing event.

After superb dining and libation, Mr. Pytiak announced the winning foursome of the golf outing: Alex Maritczak, Paul Lukasik, Paul Kinal and Mark Weigle. Their names will be engraved onto the golf trophy that is on display in the UCC trophy collection. Prizes were also given for longest drive and closest to the pin. As well, all participants received a gift from the Ukrainian Cultural Center.

Organizers say they look forward to an even bigger participation in next year’s outing. (Readers may visit the Ukrainian Cultural Center Facebook page to view pictures of the golf event and all participants.)
